The Heron Mountain leather side shields not only block direct sunlight and glare, but they also protect against dust and wind, resulting in reduced eye fatigue and less dry eyes during long days in the mountains.

During long days on the trail, it is essential to wear comfortable sunglasses. Weighing 25g-32g, all the sunglasses in our hiking collection are supremely light on your face. With frames made from premium cellulose acetate, or Swiss-invented TR90® polyamide, they can be shaped for a secure yet comfortable fit.

Yes, Heron Mountain are designed specifically with mountain hiking in mind, featuring leather side shields, anti-fog shatterproof lenses, and adjustable temple ends for a secure fit in varied terrain. For lighter trail hiking, the Howlin' (28g, detachable headstrap, V52® polarized) and the Ventures (26g, Bio TR90® frame) are excellent everyday trail options.
For hiking, prioritise UV400 protection, polarized lenses (to cut glare on water, and rocky surfaces), sports hinges, and durable frames. We recommend styles from our Active Lifestyle collection (Howlin’, Waylons, Ella, Elmore and Daytrippers) which come with a detachable sports headstrap for an extra secure fit. For alpine or exposed terrain, side shields are worth considering to block peripheral glare, light and wind.
Heron Mountain (Cat. 3, non-polarized) are designed for general mountain and hiking conditions and mixed light conditions. Heron Glacier (Cat. 4, non-polarized) are built for high-altitude, glacial, or snow-covered terrain where UV intensity is extreme, and maximum eye protection is required.
Yes, all VALLON sunglasses provide 100% UV400 protection. At altitude, UV intensity increases ~10% for every 1,000 metres climbed which makes proper eye protection key for multi-day hiking and alpine routes.
